My name is Ashley. I’m a young author advocating for bullying in school environments and an aspiring scientist. Let’s get to know each other.

I am from the Los Angeles area and attended and all-girls school.

I just graduated highschool and am attending Loyola Marymount University to pursue a double degree in Biochemistry and Applied Physics with an emphasis in writing as well.

Research

My research includes a close investigation of STEM cells shown by the regeneration of a flat worm called planaria. Utilizing, this organism with regenerative abilities allowed me to demonstrate the effect of microplastics on an aquatic ecosystem.

Triumph Over Trials

My novel Triumph Over Trials explores the triumphs and tribulations of facing bullying in a school environment. Throughout the novel, I talk about the pain and lasting effects of experiencing bullying yet the strength that comes along with it. I also discuss things an adolescent can do to face loneliness at times and tools to regain confidence following the bullying.

TheEdge

Welcome to "TheEdge," where we delve into the journey from adolescence to adulthood. I'm your host, Ashley Hurjak, a double major in Biochemistry and Applied Physics at Loyola Marymount University. My research has been recognized with the Archer Rise Scholar Award, and my work on the vaginal microbiome and planaria regeneration has been published in esteemed journals. As the author of "Triumph Over Trials," a novel exploring young adult insecurities, and a recipient of multiple academic and volunteer awards, I bring a wealth of knowledge and experience to our discussions. Join me as we explore the complexities of the teen to adult experience.

Today, I am working on new experimental designs to pursue in college and am at a large phase of transition in my life going from college to highschool. Whether or not you are in the same boat, I hope we continue this journey together.
